K of C Hosts Lunch, Game at Columbus Day

The Columbus Day is a commemoration of the Catholic Christian arrival of Faith in “the Americas” on October 12, 1492 particularly in San Salvador Island. Guided by a universal theme, “Endowed by their Creator with Life and Liberty,” the Columbian year is celebrated worldwide.

Here in our Archdiocese, it is traditionally celebrated by honoring the clergy within the month of October. Significantly, the event falls this year on the actual day “Columbus brought Europe to the new world, with all the consequences that resulted.”

This year, the Knights of Columbus in the Archdiocese of Davao headed by the Mindanao State Deputy/Mindanao jurisdiction C95, Sir Knight Reynaldo C. Trinidad offered a lunch to the more than 60 diocesan and religious priests led by Most Reverend George B. Rimando, D.D., Msgr. Leonardo B. Vicente, and guests from the Aboitiz Group of Companies at the Archbishop’s Residence. Afterwards, a basketball match, which was won by the clergy versus the Davao Knight of Columbus at a score of 73-67, was played in St. Mary’s Parish, Buhangin, last October 12.

With the efforts led by Davao Archdiocesan Coordinator and Over-all chairman Sir Knight Dr. Rizaldo R. Gonzalez, the Columbus Day 2015 celebration succeeded. (Sir Knight Rogelio P. Andama, Jr. | Photos: Michael Corong)
