Catastrophic Exploitation

AN issue in the Philippines has been coming up recently, of people vis-à-vis loggers and miners. I think even the poor people’s rights have to be respected, especially when the water systems, environment, and livelihood are affected. What will happen when the rich and powerful rake all the money at the expense of a devastated ecology which affects the lives and livelihood of the poor people?

In the long run this will affect everybody, to the shame of us all who do not realize the importance of environmental protection. What if the catastrophes will occur because of the imbalance in nature caused by ecological devastation? Just ask yourselves. Can you pay for even one life lost? Not only that. The global warming will affect everybody. It’s not the money that must be given all the importance but the common good. Let us hearken to the saying: ‘Your own welfare is at stake when your neighbor’s house is on fire’.
