Power of the “MASA”
Pope Francis’ concern for the poor is worth emulating. All elected public officials must devote attention and resources to the less fortunate constituents. Those who can afford can very well take care of themselves. But the poor has nowhere to go.
It is undeniable that the “masa” can be credited for election victories. In fact, the poor sector can make or unmake the political career of candidates.
Remember the favorite line: “Those who have less in life must have more in law.” It’s payback time for the less fortunate.
WELCOME BACK. —Archbishop Emeritus NANDING CAPALLA is now back from his trip to Rome and the Lourdes in France.
He brought home with him some religious items for “pasalubong” like rosaries personally blessed by Pope Francis and the miraculous waters from Lourdes in France. Welcome back.
CEBU PAC —The Cebu Pacific accident at the Davao airport will be a good trigger for the revival of my congressional bill for the creation of the Davao International Airport Authority. I understand Congresswoman Mylene Garcia Albano has filed a similar bill that was not passed during my time more than 20 years ago. LET’S ALL SUPPORT IT.
It’s imperative that local Dabawenyos must run and manage the airport, No other persons are more concerned and affected by this facility than Dabawenyos themselves.
I understand a high-level team of the airline came from Manila and encamped in Davao City to hear what the passengers had to say and listen to their complaints or demands. It’s good to know more focused attention to the plight of those who went through the trauma of a dangerous landing is now available. . I am sure Cebu Pacific will consider all their reasonable and valid concerns.
POWER —I had about 2 hours of informational chat about the power issue in Mindanao with Davao Light EVP/CEO Art MIlan a few days ago.
The water level at Lake Lanao has now risen due to the onset of the rains. Because of this, Mindanao is no longer suffering from long brownouts. However, we must not be complacent. By August this year due to maintenance disruptions of generating plants, we will be back to another power shortage period.
So let’s all prepare this early.
PASSED —Some close friends passed away recently. One of them was ATTY MARTIN SUELTO, our neighbor at GSIS Matina. He had lived a full life and had devoted much of his talents, resources and time in the lay service of the Lord. Another friend was ERNIE LORENZANA, a classmate during college days. Our condolences.
