The Holy Spirit makes goodness surpass evil

NEWS about evil and evildoers dominate the tri-media of TV, radio and press through high tech gadgets.

This is the perception of many.

Of course, it is just a perception, not a survey report or research statistics. Even these are not available to most people.

The predominance of news reports on evil, though not statistically proven, has a very depressing effect on the majority of the people. As a result they hardly have positive thoughts, bright outlook and uplifting enthusiasm.

This negative social and cultural atmosphere is sadly happening in a Christian country where hope of new life should be experienced because of the “power of the resurrection which has permeated the world” (Pope Francis’ Evangelii Gaudium, n. 276).

Pope Francis wants us all to be people of joy with the ‘joy of the gospel’ (‘Evangelii Gaudium’ in Latin). And this is all the work of the Holy Spirit according to this beautiful papal exhortation. He himself personifies this joy. He makes everyone joyful even non-Catholics and non-Christians. It is the Holy Spirit inwardly responsible for the “Francis effect” on millions of people around the world.

Let us pray that the Holy Spirit instill in our open hearts and minds the fire of joyful love.
