‘Tree Parenting’ Launched at Ascension Parish
“Mother Earth should be loved,” Fr. Leonardo Dublan Jr. in his homily said last Sunday.
The commandment, “Love one another as I have loved you” was concretized and emphasized by the Ascension of the Lord Parish during the launch of a new ecological program dubbed as “Tree Parenting” during the 9:00 am mass.
This program is anchored on the parish’s vision that promotes ecological stewardship. It encompasses planting, growing and caring of trees, which involves active participation of the different GKKs.
Since this project involves the grassroots community, it is also founded on the principle of solidarity where such responsibility does not only rely on a certain sector of a community, the Church, but needs also the collaboration from the barangay and other institutions. Thus, during the launching, the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was done by Parish Priest of the Ascension of the Lord Parish Fr. Dublan Jr., Brgy. Captain of Matina Pangi Carmelo R. Arana, and NSTP Head of the UIC, Dr. Corazon R. Umblero as witnessed by Engr. Elisa P. Madrazo (CENRO), Hon. Leonardo R. Avila III (Environment Committee of Sangguniang Panglungsod), and Jesus Manuel S. Iñigo (Consultant). After the signing of the MOU, a ceremonial tree planting took place by the GKK leaders and UIC NSTP faculty in ASICO, Matina Pangi.
“The greatest expression of love is to die in oneself. Such quote serves as a rallying call to us all in order to awaken our hearts about the importance of dying in oneself in the spirit of service so that others may live,” he ended. (Regine Mae Baguio)
