Underground cabling project in Davao City in full blast after Araw ng Dabaw
The Davao City Wires and Cables (WAC) technical team is set to start excavating the grounds within Davao City Hall and Sangguniang Panlungsod borders for the underground cabling of electrical and communication wires after Araw ng Dabaw celebration this March 16.
Atty. Joel Felizarta, acting Assistant City Building official, said that the pilot project of the underground cabling will help lessen the dangling wires crutched up by posts in its current set up.
According to Felizarta, the Davao Light and Power Company is allocating P70 million for the project. He also expects the water district, telecommunication companies and other companies with cables on the poles to allocate fund for the underground cabling.
Felizarta also ensures the safety of the project and said that these cables are well-protected from calamities such as floods when compared to the exposed one.
The project aims to shore up the image of the city, making it tourist-attractive and economically competitive while sustaining the protection of the environment.
Felizarta said that there will be no power disturbances within the vicinity and gave an assurance that the operations of the two government buildings will not be interrupted.
Last January 28, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte signed the Executive Order No. 2 series of 2015 constituting the WAC technical team based on Ordinance No. 0177-14 series of 2014 which states that all electrical and telecommunication wires and cables within the vicinity of City Hall and Sangguniang Panlungsod will be placed underground.
The underground cable project is targeted to be completed by December this year. (Mark Kinlee E. Ocay)
