Davao devotees celebrated Black Nazarene feast
Every first month of the year, Filipinos are excited and wait for the calendar to strike on the 9th day of January. Thousands of people join and hope to touch the miracle statue.
The life-size wooden statue of Jesus is also called Black Nazarene. Celebrating its feast since the 17th century, people from all over the country would come to Manila to participate the longest procession in the Philippines.Last January 9, 2015, at San Pedro Cathedral 12:00 noon, a lot of people came and joined the Mass presided by Archbishop Emeritus of Davao, Most Rev. Fernando R. Capalla, D.D. to celebrate the feast of the Black Nazarene showing their sincerest faith and beliefs carrying with them their own replica of the Black Nazarene.
In his homily, he reminded the people that Jesus bears the cross for us to walk along in whatever problems we encounter. Like the Black Nazarene who carries the cross en route to his crucifixion on Calvary, we also do as people of God.
After the Mass, the Archbishop invited the people who were touching the statue to celebrate the feast in an organized manner.
Miracles do happen every day, waking up in the morning is a blessing for us to be thankful. Our faith and love to God and our positive way of thinking would bring a miracle that nothing is impossible. (Jesa B. Tombo)
