Church stands firm against Vasectomy

As the world marks the celebration of Vasectomy Day last November 7, the Director of the Family and Life Apostolate of Davao expresses dismay over the practice of vasectomy as it goes against the will of God.

Fr. Orlando Angelia said vasectomy is against human dignity since it’s like castrating the person. Castration is an ancient tradition of removing the testicles of men to stop procreation.

“Vasectomy is mutilating the part of human beings responsible for procreation,” Fr. Angelia said during an interview with Davao Catholic Herald.

Wikipedia explains that “Vasectomy is a surgical procedure for male sterilization and/or permanent birth control. During the procedure, the male vasa deferentia are severed and then tied/sealed in a manner so as to prevent sperm from entering into the seminal stream (ejaculate) and thereby prevent fertilization from occurring.”

It can be remembered that Davao City participated in the celebration of World Vasectomy Day for the second time since it was launched in 2013. Their aim is to increase the awareness of people on No-Scalpel Vasectomy (NSV) to limit the number of children in a family.

A free No-Scalpel Vasectomy procedure was held on November 5 and 7 at the Tomas Claudio Health Center in Davao City.

Data from the City Health Information System show that Davaoeños have a very low acceptance to NSV. The City Health Office said they have a total of 398 patients undergoing the procedure since 2008
