Three G’s
Some friends ask what is my secret of long life because in our culture the life span of eighty is quite long. Before I can answer the question, they ask another, “Did you have a stem cell operation?”
To the first question I some times use the joke of my mother (She went back to the Father at the age of 98), “a secret is kept, not exposed”. But seriously and modesty aside, I would first answer NO to the stem cell and to both questions with “Three G’s” or GOD, GENES & GUTS.
By GOD is refered to the daily struggle of answering the call to prayer, meditation and contemplation as well as to the constant need to be aware of His presence within and outside of myself.
By GENES is meant the blood, hormones and all traits of character inherited from being conceived and raised by my parents. They call this the genetic influence.
By GUTS is meant the ideas, values and cultural/physical influences that contributed to the way I make decisions of conscience.
These three G’s are confirmed by a scientific study of several 80-year olds who live and behave and make decisions like they were in their mid-50’s.
This was published in the Newsweek magazine just a couple of years ago.
According to the study the octogenarians attributed their physical and mental health to three factors: physical exercise, constant meditation, and challenges to the brain like problem solving issues. The scientists explain everything from the standpoint of science.
