DAYCA establishes Education Ministry
”My people perish for want of knowledge…” (Hosea 4:6)
The on-going struggle as youth in facing the challenges of time while also keeping ourselves up to date or “in time” hangs in a very delicate balance. We can therefore ask ourselves, where do we strike the balance? How do we strike a balance?
In the effort to address these deep, unrelenting questions, so relevant in our time today, the DAYCA ministers organized the education ministry by systematic planning and united effort, to see to it that we will not be left without an answer. The deep seated desire to reach out to our fellow youth in the Archdiocese of Davao has inspired us to address the need to form and educate the youth not just in facing these challenges but more importantly, in journeying with them. Moved with confidence, the ministers contemplated on the 3 fold Mission of Jesus, namely, Kingly, Priestly, and Prophetic. In all of DAYCA’s endeavor to integrate the three, the said ministry’s primary focus is on the prophetic mission of Jesus. Taking into consideration that all baptized Christians are called to an active participation in Jesus’ mission, it is an undeniable fact that many, if not all, fail to notice and accept this call. One of the many reasons for young people’s inactivity and disinterest is the lack of knowledge of why it is important to be the ‘hands and feet of Jesus’ our time today.
Accordingly, the ministers will be facing these realities with the youth, and in doing so, we are fleshing out a significant part of the threefold mission of Jesus. As education minister we are to equip ourselves by, first and foremost, making all necessary steps and training to be an effective minister to the youth.
In conclusion, we, the ministers, contemplate on the words of Jesus in the Gospel:“…Give them something to eat yourselves…” (Mt. 14:16), accepting the truth that we can only give what we have.
