Inter-School First Aid Competition Showcases Red Cross Youth Excellence

Davao City, September 14, 2024 – Eight Red Cross Youth (RCY) Councils from various schools in Davao gathered for the annual Inter-School First Aid Competition at the University of Southeastern Philippines – Obrero Campus Gymnasium. The event, which aimed to promote safety awareness, emergency response readiness, and teamwork among participants, saw young RCY members competing in multiple first aid challenges.

The competition included events such as Basic Life Support, Bleeding Control and Bandaging Relay, Patient Transfer Relay, Splinting Relay, and Situational Problem Solving. Through these activities, participants demonstrated their competence in first aid skills, showcasing the importance of preparedness in emergency situations.

The competition was designed not only to hone the skills of the participants but also to foster unity and sportsmanship across different school levels. Both private and public school RCY councils took part, highlighting the significance of the Red Cross mission in the community.

In the Junior RCY category, St. Peter’s College of Toril (SPCT) emerged as the champion, followed by Kapitan Tomas Monteverde Senior Central Elementary School (KTMSCES) as 1st runner-up and Upper Sirib as 2nd runner-up.

For the Senior RCY, University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC) claimed the championship, with Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School (DRANHS) and SPCT securing the 1st and 2nd runner-up spots, respectively.

The Senior Plus RCY category saw UIC winning the title, while San Pedro College (SPC) and Mapua Malayan Colleges Mindanao (MMCM) placed as 1st and 2nd runner-ups.

Finally, in the College RCY category, SPC was crowned champion, with Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) earning 1st runner-up honors.

The successful event concluded with the participants gaining valuable experiences in teamwork and lifesaving skills, reaffirming the role of Red Cross Youth in promoting health and safety in their communities.
