A timely gift
On October 7, 2024, during the Feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, the Archdiocese of Davao joyfully welcomed the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, a generous gift from Rosary for Life (RFL) Philippines, a dedicated pro-life prayer support group committed to saving unborn babies from abortion. This five-foot digitally enhanced replica of the tilma of Our Lady, touched to the original image in Mexico City, was presented in a solemn Rite of Enthronement led by Most Rev. Romulo G. Valles, D.D., during a Holy Mass with Rite of Admission to Candidacy to Holy Orders for our six seminarians.
In his homily, Archbishop Valles reflected on the preparations for the Battle of Lepanto, emphasizing how sailors and soldiers turned to Our Lady of Guadalupe for protection and intercession. Their collective prayers of the rosary symbolized hope and unity, bolstering their morale and conviction, ultimately contributing to their victory.
Mr. Vincent Aranas and Ms. Lou Tolentino, representatives of Rosary for Life Philippines, endorsed the tilma to the archdiocese. Mr. Aranas provided a brief catechesis before the mass, highlighting the significance of the occasion. Ms. Tolentino shared that in just six years, RFL has helped save 365 babies from abortion. In Pasig, RFL operates a facility for mothers in need during their pregnancies, offering support to those who later return when they are financially stable.
This gift of Our Lady of Guadalupe is particularly timely as we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the archdiocese, reinforcing our commitment to life and faith inspired by Mama Mary within our community.
