DORECO faces challenges with indomitable spirit
City of Mati, Davao Oriental – Consistent with its thrust of transparency and participative membership of rural electrification, the 32nd Annual General Membership Assembly of DORECO was conducted on July 12, 2014, with the full force of DORECO management and member consumers from the six districts of the Cooperative, covering the whole of province of Davao Oriental.
Highlighting the program was the report of the Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Gregory Dukil, and the Board President, Mr. Lusito Gregorio.
In their joint report, Dukil reiterated that DORECO is still recuperating from the wreckage brought by super typhoon Pablo, with its focus now on rehabilitation.
“Needless to say, we really suffered a net loss, there was a great impact of what happened on our revenue, and it was a total deficit. But we were never obnoxious, we never give up, and we never loose hope. With our recovery cost reaching over two hundred million pesos, there’s still a lot of work to do,” he explained.
Dukil happily reported that despite the turmoil that DORECO went through, but it successfully energized the remaning 25 barangays in the municipalities of Baganga, Cateel, and Boston who were left in the dark after being preyed by Pablo.
“The President told us to do it one month or 30 days, we were able to do it in just 27 days. We were waitimg all along for the release of funds from the Nat’l Electrification Administration. And when the funds were released, we diligently worked on it,” he added.
Though the National Electrification Administration (NEA) was quick to release the substantial amount of 91 million pesos in the form of emergency loan, but DORECO felt it was not enough since it was only less than a half to the total damage cost of 216 million.
In the Open Forum, the Board of Directors gladly answered all the queries from the member consumers. The queries were about the system loss, process of power connection to be complied, discount for senior citizens, and more.
Davao Oriental Governor Corazon Malanyaon has always considered DORECO as one of the development partners of the province.
“We thank DORECO for bringing back the lights to those places after what seemed to be eternal darkness amidst a calamity. The restored lights brightened thehir lives and lightened their loads. With DORECO, it was always with optimism and abiding faith with God that gave us strength to move on and build back the affected areas better than what they used to be,” she said.
DORECO also expressed gratitude to the local government units, and to the provincial government for the unceasing support.
At the Annual General Membership Assembly, DORECO expressed gratitude to the productive years of Mr. Franklin Larobis, who served as Board of Director, representing district 3, covering the municipalities of Lupon and Banaybanay.
And as Mr. Larobes is in his retirement, DORECO welcomed Mrs. Carolina Tadena to the family.
Though new to the inside world of rural electrification, but Tadene vowed to do her best to contribute to power service upliftment.
In summation, Engr. Dukil is proud that where DORECO is right now, despite the worst crisis that the cooperative had been through, “speaks of the people serving in the organization and the kind of leadership that is presently running the affairs of the cooperative”.
DORECO is now in its 36 years of fruitful operation in the province of Davao Oriental.
