Teresian Daughters of Mary Golden Jubilee 2024

The Teresian Daughters of Mary Jubilee

The golden jubilee of the Teresian Daughters of Mary on September 15 marked 50 years of firm devotion, mission-driven service, and steadfast faith. This momentous occasion was not just a celebration of longevity but a testament to a half-century of Eucharistic-centered life, inspired by the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mater Dolorosa, the Mother of Sorrows.

Founded in 1974 in Davao City, the Teresian Daughters of Mary (TDM) trace their roots to the “Daughters of Saint Teresa” (DST), established by Venerable Teofilo Camomot. Initially formed as a pious association engaged in catechism, education, and charitable works, the group evolved into a religious congregation after Venerable Camomot returned from the Vatican in 1965. Gaining the sisters’ consensus, he formalized the congregation, allowing them to wear the religious habit, and named the group after St. Teresa of Avila, the mystic and reformer.

Through Venerable Camomot’s guidance, the DST quickly grew, expanding into Mindanao and Visayas regions. Yet, after his resignation and due to internal challenges following Vatican II, the congregation eventually divided into several independent institutes, including the Teresian Daughters of Mary, which has flourished over the past five decades.

As part of their 50th-anniversary celebration, the TDM sisters participated in the 12th Gathering of Sisters, commemorating the shared history and mission of various congregations that branched out from the DST. The event honored their collective journey and the legacy of Venerable Camomot, celebrating the sacrifices and spiritual growth that have marked their lives of service.

A highlight of the golden jubilee was the renewal of vows by the congregation’s ruby jubilarians, who marked 40 years of religious life. These sisters have faithfully served the Lord and His people, and their recommitment to their vows reflects their enduring love and dedication to their calling. The ruby jubilarians are:

  1. Sr. Ma. Cristina H. Cachero, TDM
  2. Sr. Marygrace L. Lumawag, TDM
  3. Sr. Ma. Gertrudes D. Neri, TDM
  4. Sr. Ma. Elsa A. Crispala, TDM
  5. Sr. Ma. Lydia M. Perales, TDM
  6. Sr. Ma. Gemelina T. Gaudicos, TDM
  7. Sr. Ma. Jean C. Gabuya, TDM
  8. Sr. Ma. Florenda C. Misiona, TDM
  9. Sr. Ma. Editha D. Dismas, TDM
  10. Sr. Ma. Lydia G. Famor, TDM
  11. Sr. Ma. Minda C. Renegado, TDM

These sisters have stood as witnesses to the faith, embodying the virtues of the Blessed Mother, particularly her role as the Mother of Sorrows. Like Mary, who stood at the foot of the cross with courage, faith, and hope, these sisters have faced the trials of life and mission with grace, drawing strength from the Eucharistic Lord.

The Teresian Daughters of Mary have remained true to their mission, transforming communities through their works of education, charity, and spiritual guidance. As the congregation celebrates 50 years, they are not only looking back with gratitude but also looking forward with hope and renewed energy. The golden jubilee is a reminder to religious and laity alike to follow Mary’s example and draw strength from the Eucharist in their daily lives. In a world filled with uncertainty and challenges, the Teresian Daughters of Mary call on all to stand firm in faith, just as Mary did, with confidence in the Lord’s mercy and love.

With their renewed vows, the ruby jubilarians and all the TDM sisters reaffirm their commitment to continue their mission of faith, hope, and love. Their service is a beacon of hope and inspiration, reminding us of the strength found in unity, forgiveness, and dedication to God’s call. May the next 50 years be filled with the same faith and perseverance that have carried them through the past five decades. To God be the glory!
