Mary’s Children in Pilgrimage
The Marian Pilgrimage at the Diocesan Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help in Maco, Davao de Oro, has commenced with a vibrant display of faith, unity, and devotion, drawing pilgrims from far and wide to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary under her various titles.
Day 1 of the pilgrimage, which began on August 31, 2024, set the tone for the spiritual journey ahead. The celebration kicked off with a grand motorcade, showcasing diverse images of Mary. The procession traveled from Christ the King Cathedral in Tagum to Maco, where the streets were lined with devoted followers. With flags waving and joyful hearts, the faithful warmly welcomed the sacred images, embodying their love and reverence for the Blessed Mother.
Upon arriving at the shrine, pilgrims gathered at the altar to recite the Holy Rosary, followed by a solemn Mass presided over by Rev. Fr. Freddie Barte, together with priests from the Holy Family Vicariate. The atmosphere was one of deep spirituality and renewal, as hearts were lifted, prayers were fervently offered, and bonds with the Blessed Mother were strengthened.
The second day, September 1, 2024, continued the pilgrimage with prayers and devotions. Msgr. Federico Mantica, Vicar General of the Diocese of Tagum, led the Eucharistic celebration, bringing the pilgrims together in a shared experience of grace and unity. Each moment of the day was infused with a sense of spiritual renewal, as the faithful continued their journey, seeking the intercession of the Blessed Mother.
On Day 4, the pilgrims were graced by the presence of Most Rev. Guillermo Afable, Bishop of Digos, who, together with the DADITAMA delegates, delivered an inspiring sharing about the Blessed Virgin Mary. Bishop Afable challenged the faithful to emulate Mary in her faithfulness, obedience, and humility, and emphasized the importance of making her known to the whole world.
This pilgrimage is more than just a series of events; it is a spiritual journey that renews faith, deepens devotion, and brings the community closer to God through Mary. As the days unfold, pilgrims are invited to participate in Holy Hour, confession, and other sacred activities designed to inspire and guide them in their spiritual lives.
This pilgrimage serves as a powerful reminder of the Blessed Mother’s enduring presence and influence in the lives of the faithful. Through her, the pilgrims find the grace to persevere, the strength to face challenges, and the hope to continue on their journey of faith. As the Marian Pilgrimage continues, the faithful are encouraged to follow the loving guidance of the Blessed Mother, who leads all closer to her Son. (Earna Rose B. Cadungog | DiTaSCom)
