Divine Calling: Embracing Ministry as a Deacon

On August 1, 2024, the Diocese of Mati welcomed a new servant into its ministry as Bro. Marijun Ma. of the Most Holy Name of Jesus Cabales was deacon. The ordination rite took place at St. Justin Maria Rusolillo Quasi-Parish and was presided over by Most Rev. Abel C. Apigo, D.D., Bishop of Mati.

Rev. Marijun Ma. of the Most Holy Name of Jesus Cabales, SDV was born in Ormoc City, Leyte. He completed his philosophical studies at Saint Francis Xavier College Seminary (XaCoSe) and his theological studies at the Regional Major Seminary of Mindanao (ReMaSe). Before his priestly vocation, he possessed practical skills as a carpenter, welder, electrician, and plumber.

He is a testament to the indomitable human spirit and the firm power of faith. Born into the crucible of life, he navigated the winding path to priesthood with a tenacity that belied his years. The whispers of doubt, sown by those who underestimated his potential, only served to ignite a fire within his soul.

In his homily, Bishop Abel emphasized that in this new beginning of his life, his presence in the clerical or his entrance to the clerical life will always be reminded by the words of St. Padre Pio, who said, “My past, oh Lord, to your mercy, my present to your love, my future to your providence.” He encouraged Rev. Marijun to embrace his new ministry with humility, compassion, and zeal.

The ordination rite was attended by family, friends, priests and religious members of the diocese. As Reverend Marijun begins this new chapter of his life, he carries with him the prayers and support of many.

Rev. Marijun is a member of the Society of Divine Vocation. His journey to the diaconate has been marked by years of dedicated prayer, study, and service. The imposition of hands by Bishop Apigo signified the conferral of the sacred order upon him, empowering him to assist the priest in the celebration of the liturgy, to preach the gospel, to baptize, to witness marriages, and to bring the Eucharist to the sick and dying.
