Rev Fr Julius Lugay Thanksgiving Mass at St. Jude Shrine Parish, July 1, 2024 Thanksgiving Mass of Rev. Fr. Julius Lugay at St. Jude Shrine Parish, Gen. Malvar St., Davao City

Celebrating the Gift of Priesthood

The Archdiocese of Davao recently witnessed a momentous occasion as Rev. Fr. Julius E. Lugay, a newly ordained priest, celebrated his Thanksgiving Mass. Ordained alongside seven new priests on June 29, 2024, Fr. Julius’s ordination was part of the 176th Fiesta of San Pedro Cathedral and the 75th Diamond Jubilee of the Archdiocese of Davao. This significant event marked the continuation of a rich tradition of faith and service within the community.

Fr. Julius’s ordination holds a special place in the heart of St. Jude Thaddeus Parish, as he is the second priest ordained after 24 years from this parish, following in the footsteps of Rev. Fr. Rolando O. Mandreza, who is now Parish Priest of St. James Parish, Bunawan.

Last July 1, 2024, Fr. Julius gave back at his home parish, where he grew up and had once served as an altar boy, to celebrate his Thanksgiving Mass. The 5:30 PM Mass saw a packed congregation, with the presence of the Gagmay’ng Kristohanong Katilingban (GKK), PaReCo, family, relatives, and friends all gathered to support and celebrate Fr. Julius’s achievement.

The celebration at St. Jude Thaddeus Parish was vibrant and joyous, with a lively program filled with smiles, talents, and gifts shared in honor of Fr. Julius. The sense of community and unity was notable as everyone came together to make the evening memorable.

Adding to the series of joyful events, another Thanksgiving Mass was celebrated by Fr. Julius on July 20, 2024, at San Isidro Labrador, Datu Bago. This event saw the participation of all GKK members, particularly from Zone 3, which includes San Isidro Labrador, Datu Bago, Sto. Niño, Don Isidro Village and San Pedro Apostol, Exodus. The gathering was reminiscent of a feast day, with members bringing food to share, further highlighting the spirit of camaraderie and gratitude.

The parish community is deeply grateful for the gift of priesthood and extends heartfelt thanks to Rev. Fr. Roy F. Mejias, the parish priest, for his continuous support Fr. Julius. The parishioners of St. Jude Thaddeus Parish are hopeful and prayerful that Fr. Julius will continue to serve God and His people with dedication and love.

As we celebrate Fr. Julius’s ordination and his commitment to his vocation, we are reminded of the impact of faith and service in our lives. May Fr. Julius’s journey inspire many more to follow their calling and contribute to the spiritual growth of our community. (Babet A. Palero | St. Jude Thaddeus Shrine Parish SocCom)
