A celebration of stewardship and faith

On May 24, the serene grounds of St. Francis Xavier College Seminary in Catalunan Grande, Davao City, were filled with joy as 24 seminarians celebrated their Baccalaureate Mass and 60th Commencement Exercises. The event marked a milestone in their spiritual journey, united under the theme “Let Me Be the Bearer of Your Love.”

Most Rev. Romulo G. Valles, D.D., delivered an inspiring message to the graduates, highlighting the importance of their commitment to faith. “Congratulations on this significant moment of your life!” he began, his words resonated deeply with the seminarians and attendees. “With the seminary fathers, formators, staff, and the whole community of St. Francis Xavier College Seminary, I am filled with great joy for another fruitful year of your seminary formation”.

The Archbishop emphasized the deep calling the seminarians have answered, urging them to embrace their roles as stewards of faith and shepherds of souls. “As you heed God’s call, I join you and the seminary community of stewards as Christ’s disciples in the ministerial priesthood for a synodal Church. It is my hope and prayer that you draw strength from the Lord, our risen Savior, in your quiet moments of prayer and reflection, until Christ is formed in you.”

The Mass was also concelebrated by the Bishop of Mati, Most Rev. Abel C. Apigo, D.D. together with 28 priests, showcasing ecclesiastical unity and support.

This year’s graduating batch, affectionately known as the “Militians,” drew inspiration from St. Maximilian Kolbe, who founded the Militia Immaculatae, or the “Army of the Immaculate,” reflecting their commitment to living out their mission with fervor and devotion. The graduation theme, “Let me be the bearer of your love,” encapsulated the essence of their journey and mission, signifying their readiness to spread love and faith, embodying the principles they have learned and the spiritual growth they have achieved.

As the ceremony concluded, Archbishop Valles encouraged them to continue embracing God’s calling with humility, courage, and faith. The event was an affirmation of their dedication and readiness to serve.
