EMCEE/Moderator Guidelines
EMCEE means masters of ceremonies. I was a government worker for 20 years. Sometimes I am asked to be the MC/Moderator. Most of the time I get lost and confused during the meeting/conference because I am unprepared so this list of reminders is for you.
- Introduce oneself briefly, Name, position, stop, no ad-libs
- Control and supervise the activities for the day.
- See to it that everything proceeds according to schedule
- Regulate tactfully the time of lectures
- Regulate the conduct of Open Forum
- Participants should identify themselves first before asking questions
- Written questions may also be allowed
- Give own inputs when called for
- Act also as Master of Ceremonies (emcee) for the day
- Give a short introduction of the lecturers/resource persons, and their respective lectures/topics, focusing only on their field of expertise. No Jokes nor ad libs
- See to it that all participants are already in place before any lecture/activity begins.
- Remind participants from time to time of:
- punctuality, if late, respect the lecturer and the audience. Don’t rush in looking for a seat.
- wearing of IDs
- bringing with them always their seminar kit and hand-outs.
- proper attire and decorum, especially during lectures. Don’t sleep. Don’t snore. DON’T USE YOUR CELLPHONE.
- prompt submission of evaluation sheets and written assignments (if any)
- “No smoking” areas
- Announce changes in schedule/activities (when warranted)
- Announce after the Open Forum that Certificates of Appreciation shall be awarded to lecturers/resource persons by the host.
- Consult with the host on any matter affecting the conduct of the seminar, and coordinate with the Secretariat and Support Staff to insure smooth and efficient flow of activities.
