Trinity Sunday is National BEC Sunday in the Philippines

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) declared that every Holy Trinity Sunday will be celebrated Basic Ecclesial Communities (BEC) Sunday in the Philippines. The Holy Trinity is the source of our Church’s unity and mission. The BEC, since it is “a new way of being church,” its model is the Holy Trinity, the perfect unity of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

In our country, “the Basic Ecclesial Communities” serve as beautiful models of the unity in love and mission of God’s people. Just as the body of Christ is one though made of many parts (1 Cor. 12:13), so do BECs bring together people from diverse backgrounds to form a community in Christ.

Empowered by the Holy Spirit, BECs reach out to our so-called “separated brethren”, those of other religions and also the indigenous peoples (IPs’) to bring mutual understanding, service, peace and harmony.
