The coming of the Holy Spirit

“Receive the Holy Spirit” (John 20:22). Today, fifty days after the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Catholic Church celebrates the Solemnity of Pentecost. It is to fulfill the works of the Holy Trinity, which started with God the Father’s Creation, especially of man, followed by God the Son’s redemption after the fall of man, and finally, the Holy Spirit’s sanctification, which perpetuates the works of Jesus Christ in the very life of man within the Church that He founded. It is to assure us that God is not just above or with us but also in us.

We are overwhelmingly filled with God’s presence as the Church was founded by Christ. As the Holy Spirit is the Soul of the Church, thus giving birth to her very life, we are truly blessed that in the course of the Church’s life, “everything will cooperate for the good of those who love God” (Romans 8:28) because it is the Holy Spirit that breathes upon us the “fire and wind” of love, allowing us to remember the very commandment of Jesus Christ. “As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love” (John 15:9). For as long as we remain in Jesus Christ’s love, which the Holy Spirit facilitates in us, we are assured that everything will work for our good.

Glory be to God!
