Strengthening Faith and Community Bonds

In a wonderful event last April 4, 2024, the San Isidro Labrador Parish in Catalunan Grande, Davao City, played host to the Pastoral Visit. The occasion, graced by the presence of Most Rev. Romulo G. Valles D.D., brought together parishioners and clergy in a celebration of faith.

A focal point of the visit was the insightful conversation between Archbishop Valles and the parish leaders, addressing important aspects of parish life. Three key topics emerged from their dialogue, shedding light on the current state and traditions of the community:

  1. Status of “Gagmay’ng Kristohanong Katilingban (GKK)”: Delving into the heart of community engagement, Archbishop Valles inquired about the status of the GKK and its profile. GKK Parish Coordinator Tony Abad provided an overview, showcasing the growth and evolution of the GKKs over time. Despite challenges, the presentation highlighted significant improvements and best practices across the various GKKs.
  2. Thanksgiving Offerings “Halad Pasalamat”: Reflecting on the tradition of gratitude, discussions centered on the practice of Thanksgiving offerings within the parish. Attendees explored the significance of these offerings in fostering a spirit of thankfulness and unity among parishioners.
  3. History of Thanksgiving Offering: The dialogue also delved into the rich history behind the tradition of thanksgiving offerings, tracing its roots within the parish community. Participants reminisced on past offerings and their enduring impact on the parish’s collective identity.

In the welcome address, Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Maximo Bahinting expressed gratitude for the extraordinary gathering, emphasizing the significance of being joined by Archbishop Valles and parishioners from five different zones, with the 40 GKKs.

The Archdiocese of Davao Pastoral Visit not only strengthened the bonds of faith within the community but also served as a platform for reflection, growth, and solidarity among parishioners. As the event concluded, participants departed with renewed enthusiasm and inspired to continue their journey of faith and service in the spirit of unity and love. (Grace Ballarta – HCDC Intern)
