Unveiling Spiritual Growth
The Diamond Jubilee Celebration of the Archdiocese of Davao, themed “Journeying Together as a Synodal Church Living Out the Spirituality of Stewardship in our Basic Ecclesial Communities (BEC) / Gagmay’ng Kristohanong Katilingban (GKKs),” stands as a significant milestone for the archdiocese.
On April 14, 2024, under the leadership of the Archdiocesan Liturgical Center and the Archdiocesan Bible Apostolate, a Liturgical Bible Study marked the second Novena Month, centering on the Celebration of the Word of God, Sacramental Life, and Spiritual Growth. With 282 participants from 42 parishes of Davao in attendance, the event was a bustling and spiritually enriching gathering.
The small group sharing, facilitated by 50 individuals, delved into readings from the Gospel, serving as the high point and centerpiece of the Liturgy of the Word. The first reading, the second reading, and the responsorial psalm offered opportunities for participants to contemplate and reflect on the Bible and its relevance to their lives.
The afternoon session provided avenues for sacramental experiences and spiritual renewal, including the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The program concluded with a Holy Mass presided over by Most Rev. Romulo G. Valles, D.D., which left a powerful and unifying impact on all present. In his homily, he emphasized that when the Word of God is proclaimed in a Liturgical Assembly or Liturgical Bible Study, God Himself is speaking to us.
Such events play a vital role in strengthening the bonds within the community, deepening spiritual understanding, and fostering a shared commitment to embodying the values of stewardship and synodality. As a participant and facilitator, witnessing the active engagement and devotion within the archdiocese was both uplifting and inspiring. It is truly remarkable to see the dedication and involvement of the community in such endeavors. (Babet A. Palero | St. Jude Shrine Parish SoCCom)
