Papal Nuncio’s Pastoral Visit highlights Tagum Diocese’s synodal journey

The Diocese of Tagum was filled with joy as they welcomed the Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, Most Rev. Charles John Brown, D.D., under the theme: “Embracing Synodality through BEC: Celebrating Bishop Regan’s Legacy.” The two-day Pastoral Visit, spanning from April 4 to 5, 2024, was marked with various significant events.

The highlight of his visit included the blessing of the newly renovated Oratory of the Queen of Apostles College Seminary and the grave of the late Bishop Joseph William M. Regan, M.M., D.D., commemorating his 119th birthday on April 5. Additionally, the Papal Nuncio visited the newly established diocesan hospital, the Christ the King Specialists Hospital (CKSH).

Upon his arrival at the Francisco Bangoy International Airport on April 4, he was warmly greeted by the Diocese of Tagum Curia, led by Msgr. Federico M. Mantica, along with the accommodation and security team. Subsequently, he arrived at the Clergy Development Center in Tagum City at around 6:00 in the evening. Most Rev. Medil S. Aseo, D.D., Bishop of Tagum, welcomed him heartily, while also celebrating his 45th Presbyteral Anniversary. The General Superiors of some Religious Congregations, diocesan staff, seminarians, and a Rondalla musical group added to the welcoming atmosphere. The signing of the certificate of appearance at the Clergy Development Center (CDC) lobby followed, and a moment of prayer took place in front of the St. John Marie Vianney Chapel.

A plaque of appreciation was awarded to Most Rev. Medil Aseo, D.D., in recognition of his exceptional pastoral ministry and visionary leadership in revitalizing the Christ the King Specialists Hospital. A welcome dinner toast followed at the CDC Pavilion, during which Bishop Aseo expressed his gratitude and shared his aspirations to continue the legacy of Bishop Regan.

On April 5, at 6:00 in the morning, the Papal Nuncio proceeded to the Queen of Apostles College Seminary for the blessing ceremony. Later, he visited various establishments including the Diocesan Printing Press and Publishing Inc., SPES Pauperum Foundation Inc., ACR Store, and the Parish of Christ the Eucharistic King for the blessing of Bishop Regan’s grave.

At noon, a warm welcome awaited the Papal Nuncio at the Atrium of Tagum City Hall, where DADITAMA Bishops, Clergy, Lay Representatives of each vicariate, Government Officials, and esteemed guests gathered.

The Pastoral Visit of Most Rev. Charles John Brown, D.D. culminated at the Christ the King Cathedral with a Eucharistic Celebration, marking the conclusion of a spiritually enriching and memorable event. (Sara Mae Sotomil)
