Kuya Doms: A Bible Apostle
“Challenging” was the word that Kuya Domingo Alob, or “Kuya Doms” chose in summarizing his 9-year journey and experience as an active member in the Parish Bible Apostolate. His journey started in the year 2015 when he was serving as a PSL in the Our Mother of Perpetual Help Parish, Bajada, Davao City. Kuya Doms was already part of the formation team of the parish during that time. He was asked by his then parish priest, Fr. Nestor Gaspe, to join a meeting with the existing Parish Bible Apostolate and that was where it all began. Currently, he is active and happily serving the Bible Apostolate in the Archdiocesan level. When asked how he felt about the relevance of the Bible today he said, “There is no other guide or manual for our problems and challenges in life. The Bible helps us in our own formation and of others as well. There is a great need for formation in our present generation.” Kuya Doms went on to expound this thought by highlighting how important the Bible is in his own life as well. He looks at the Bible as something that enlightens and accompanies him in everything that he encounters.
As I asked him how to invite and inspire others to join and be active in their own respective Parish Bible Apostolate, he said that those who feel the call towards aiding in the formation of others might find this kind of apostolate especially challenging. He added, “It is important to have a good team in the parish that works together who can give basic Bible seminars in effective ways. Inviting and asking others to join these seminars is a good way to start.” While he described his experience as a Bible Apostle, “challenging”, he added, “It is a challenge for the youth as well, to spread the word of God. But I am also reminded that this is not my work, but God’s work and for all of us.” (Kim R. Amparo)
