Our constant source of strength
(Homily of Most Rev. Romulo G. Valles, D.D., Archbishop of Davao during the 12th Parochial Fiesta of St. John Paul II Parish, Los Amigos, Davao City, October 22, 2023.)
Kumusta ang atong pagtoo? Pagtoo, dili lang gunitan, dili lang personal apan pagtoo nga kanunay, this pagtoo is kanunay good news, unya di kita maghinambog man pero good news nga ipakita sa atong kasilinganan; sense of mission, malipayon nga pagtoo nga ikapakita sa uban. To proclaim to others the good news of our faith.
9 joys and 9 sorrows, ang kasakit could easily, dali makatangtang sa atong pagtoo. Think of the war in Ukraine, think of the suffering in the war of the holy land now, in the holy land, how the kasakit, patay, violence, gutom, kasakit, you name it…matandog ang inyong pagtoo, dili sayon na.
Ika-duha also I would say it slowly, how ang success, how ang joys could lead you to forget God and think of yourself as the God. Balikon nako, ang success, ang kalipay can be murag drug makalimot ka nga duna pay permanent source of joy.
Ang kinabuhi ba, lakaw nato may kadaugan, may kapildihan, mao gyud na, ayaw gyud mo’g lalis ana. Kining kadaugan ug kapildihan as I said, maka derail maka tandog sa atong pagtoo. Today with the example of San Juan Pablo Segundo, may keep us firm, inspired to call the Lord always. In the temptation of victory, mga kalampusan sa kinabuhi, in the temptations of poverty and misery the Lord is our constant source of strength.
