‘Anak ng Caraga’ Priest Ordained
Diocese of Mati Bishop Most Rev. Abel Apigo, DD, ordained to the Sacred Order of Presbyters a Caraga-grown deacon, Rev. Anthony ‘Bebs’ Masaling Pobar, during the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, December 8. The ordination rite took place in his home parish, San Salvador del Mundo Parish, Caraga, Davao Oriental.
In his homily, Bishop Apigo reminded Fr. Anthony about the importance of serving God’s flock with faithfulness to the priesthood and holy life. He also urged the Catholic faithful to pray for Fr. Anthony’s ministry and all the Catholic priests serving the entire Catholic Church.
Rev. Fr. Anthony Pobar, is the seventh (7th) priest ordained by Bishop Apigo, the tenth (10th) ordained Caragueño priest, and he is the 48th Diocesan Priest in the local church of Mati as of writing.
The ordinand completed his studies at the University of Immaculate Conception, Davao City, with a Bachelor of Music degree in 2007. He completed his Masters of Arts in Education with a major in Administration and Supervision (MAED) at Divine Word College of Calapan, Oriental Mindoro. He finished his Associate in Philosophy year 2014 at Christ the King Mission Seminary, Quezon City. He completed his theological studies in 2018 and finished his Ecclesiastical Course and Masters of Arts in Theology Major in Mission Studies in 2021 at Divine Word Seminary, Tagaytay.
The newly-ordained priest will be assigned at Saint Francis Xavier Parish, Governor Generoso, as Parochial Vicar effective January 2, 2024, until the bishop’s or successor’s revocation. (Kyrie Jacky Sobrecarey | Photos: The Roman Catholic Diocese of Mati FB Page)
