Trickle-down effect
Pope Francis declares, the “Trickle-down Effect” economic model that Capitalism espouses to lift societies out from the bondage of poverty does not work. The majority of the wealth of the planet is still concentrated within the few who rule with their giant corporations that can easily gobble up every presented opportunity. Whereas, the Church teaches that out of abundance, sharing to others in ways to tap the potential of every person will ultimately benefit the many. This deed not only empowers the person, but also increases his dignity.
God designed man to manage and care for His creation. To fulfill this work, God showered everyone with gifts to potentially help realize His vision for us. However, this endeavor is mired by sin, since our first parents chose to engineer their destiny minus God. The result – chaos. This defiance greatly injured our nature; freedom is compromised and abused. Thus, the selfishness which creates inequality dominates. Worst, because of spiritual poverty, void of sacramental life, the sin of indifference persists. We only have to look at the lifestyle of the super-rich with their mansions, flashy cars, and super-yachts. In contrast, the saints taught us to reach out to the least, last, and the lost, the anawim. Let us learn from them for they see Christ in the sick, the unborn, the aged, the frightened, and the marginalized. Our Blessed Mother, the new Eve, said ‘Yes’ to God. A ‘Yes’ that acquires eternal significance for everyone.
