Upholding Filipino Values

While we can still observe saintly values among us, we are faced with the challenge, especially among the young, to continue to offer ourselves genuinely in true piety and witness of the faith. The influence of the Western culture, technology and the media is undeniably imposed upon us. The malls might have replaced the community spirit of meeting together. The modern gadgets might have robbed opportunities of true encounter. The quick and easy way offered by the net might have blinded our traditional “bayanihan”.

Let us make Saints Lorenzo Ruiz and Pedro Calungsod, who are laymen, our inspiration to not give up our saintly values as Filipinos. We may not become martyrs like them. But we can learn so much from their example as we aspire to “die” from being drawn by the current of apathy and remain firm in taking pride of living our faith in God.
