Continued Mission
Saint John Paul II played a significant role in shaping the Church’s mission and priorities, as patron saint of the parish in Los Amigos, Tugbok. It has also been the mission of St. John Paul II parish to become missionaries of the good news.
While the parish is still on its second parochial anniversary, it has already started bringing the virtues and St. John Paul II’s influence in the lives of its parishioners. One concrete example is the putting up of the GKK St. Therese. We remember that it was St. John Paul II who declared St. Therese of Lisieux as Doctor of the Church, because her teachings and spirituality have left a lasting impact on the Catholic Church.
St. John Paul II has seen the simple but powerful devotion of St. Therese and wanted to emulate that life. In turn, the parishioners also imbibed this very intentional way of life, that is to offer ones work to the Lord.
Another devotion the pope had was to the Our Lady of Fatima, it can be remembered that he was shot on May 13, 1981 which was the first apparition of the Our Lady. The saint also carried out the consecration of the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, as requested by the Virgin Mary during the apparitions at Fatima. With this, the parish of St. John Paul II, began their dawn processions or what is called aurora, during all of the Our Lady of Fatima’s apparitions.
What a wonderful way to continue the value of missionary zeal that the pope had when he was still alive. Through the guidance of the parish priest himself, Rev. Fr. Russell Bantiles, the teachings of St. John Paul II will not be forgotten.
