Renowned speaker gives tips on parenting, public speaking

Renowned speaker and newspaper columnist Francis Kong visited Davao City last May 7 and shared some tips on public speaking and practical parenting.

Audience from different parts of Mindanao came to SM Lanang Cinema to listen to Kong, who is also a proud father himself, learned about the following tips on practical parenting:

-Parents continue to study and learn because parents know they’re prone to mistake.

-Parents concentrate on the positive-remember the 90%-10% rule.

-Parents create memories and cultivate the rituals in preparation for a strong future.

-Parents understand each child’s gifting in life.

-Parents impose discipline and provide direction with love and care.

-Parents accept the child’s different stages of change.

Kong, who is known for being a top inspirational speaker and best-selling author, also gave some tips to aspiring public speakers.

He said “public speaking starts with the mind not with the mouth,” adding: “The delivery is as important as the content.”

He also told the audience to stick to their competence and niche and they should stay there. He added one cannot be an effective speaker if he will not focus on the things or topics that he or she is most good at.

“Preach what you already practice and maintain visual contact all the time,” he said, adding:

“Who you are is more powerful than what you say.”
