Celebrating a Growing Community
Last September 24, 2023, with profound joy the parish community of San Miguel Parish-Marahan in Marilog District, celebrated its 19th parochial fiesta. The celebration was well attended by the nineteen (19) Gagmay’ng Kristohanong Katilingban leaders and members. Also present in the celebration were the administrators, faculty members, and students of the partner school, the Holy Cross of Davao College, Inc. A visible presence of many visitors from different places who joined the whole community in the celebration of the Holy Eucharist and shared in the sumptuous lunch prepared by the GKKs.
The celebration was even made meaningful with the presence of our beloved Archbishop of Davao, the Most Rev. Romulo G. Valles, D.D. who celebrated the Pontifical mass together with some priests from the Missionaries of Jesus (MJ) concelebrating, present in the celebration were the MJ Coordinator General-Fr. Eugenius Cañete, MJ, the District Coordinator- Fr. Primo Fagel, MJ. The San Miguel Parish-Marahan, is under the care of the MJs since its establishment in 2004, now journeying with the faithful is Fr. Felix Bontog, MJ the parish priest and Fr. Rey Tejico, MJ the assistant parish priest.
The fiesta celebration was preceded by a dawn procession during the visperas and a medical mission headed by Davao Doctors’ Hospital. There was also a Gabi ng Parangal where lay leaders were recognized for their contributions to the growth of the parish community as well as the untiring service they rendered to their GKKs. The said celebration recognized those who have served the parish for nineteen years and above.
Adding to the memorable event was the newly extended parish church, although the construction is not yet completed, this development manifests the growth of the faithful community. It is made possible through many generous individuals who helped in making this dream a reality.
In great hope, the community will continue to journey together in the realization of the kingdom of God; working faithfully in making visible the face of Jesus as part of the mission of the church, through the intercession of Sr. San Miguel, the patron saint of the parish. (Dominic John Cagang)
