Filipino Mission Sunday

Having been established by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines in 1965, the Mission Society of the Philippines (MSP) serves as the official missionary arm of the Catholic Church in the Philippines. As a sign of commitment of the Catholic faithful to support our very own missionary congregation, the Filipino Mission Sunday was enshrined in the liturgical calendar (Ordo) annually particularly every last Sunday of July. The MSP priests together with the FMAA—Filipino Mission Auxiliary Association or Lay Mission Partners and the FYM—Filipino Youth with a Mission, visit the different parishes and dioceses every weekend leading to the celebration of the Fil-Mission Sunday. They gladly spend themselves to promote the MSP and encourage the people to pray and offer sacrifices and material offerings for the support of our Filipino Missionaries and the training of the seminarians.

It is truly inspiring to see how enthusiastic people are ỉn responding to this call to be an active participant in the perpetuation of the mission of Christ. They heartily share their material blessings no matter how little or how big their contribution may be. With this kind gesture of generosity, we all become missionaries in our little way. Our prayers and material offerings can go a long long way as we fulfill God’s command to “Go and make disciples of all nations.

Happy Fil-Mission Sunday!

(Fr. Alfie Africa, MSP)
