Bangkal PSAM prepares for disaster

The Parish Social Action Ministry of the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Bangkal conducted a one day seminar on the Disaster Preparedness Orientation last May 11, 2014, at the parish pastoral building, in response to the Archdiocesan Disaster Preparedness Program initiated by Davao ASAC Director Father Leonardo Dublan, Jr., as lessons learned from disasters brought by Typhoon Pablo in December 2012, Bohol Earthquake in October 2013 and Typhoon Yolanda also in November 2013.

The seminar attended by 34 OLLP PSAs was launched by the PSAM Coordinator Victoria Macaday who gave a lecture on the Theological Framework of Ecology, and by the Pastoral Disaster Team Coordinator Jose Josol who explained the Basic Ecology. Ofelia Bautista highlighted the Climate Change while Thelma Bernasor shared on the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management on the same seminar.

The creation of the OLLP Disaster Team was blessed by the OLLP Parish Priest Father Dexter C. Veloso as necessary considering that Bangkal area was catch basin of flood that overflowed from the rivers of Talomo and Pangi in June 2009 and June 2011 calamities.
