Volunteerism as Gifted by the Holy Spirit

In the tapestry of human existence, few virtues shine as brightly as volunteerism. It is the selfless act of giving one’s time, talents, and resources to serve others without expecting anything in return. While volunteerism is often viewed as an expression of human goodness and compassion, there is another dimension to it that transcends the human realm – the spiritual aspect of volunteerism as a gift from the Holy Spirit.

The Social Action Office of Holy Cross of Davao College, Inc. under the umbrella of the Center for Integral Evangelization upholds the importance of community and making a positive impact in the world.

To make this happen, a few communities are chosen as partners. We conduct a community needs assessment and present the result to the community and from there, we design activities and programs that match those needs. Each program has assigned focal persons to assist SAO, to cater to the students, personnel, stakeholders, and partner communities.

We encourage our students and personnel to participate in the program. We provide our partner communities with services and seminar workshops on topics such as mental health, financial literacy, leadership development, parenting, stewardship, and livelihood.

Currently, we have partner communities are, San Miguel Parish in Marahan, Marilog District, IconHope, Mobile Operation for Street Children Education Services (M.O.S.E.S), Barangay Tambo, Babak, Barangay Peñaplata, VXI, DSWD Strategic help desk for Information, Education, Livelihood and other Developmental Interventions (SHIELD) and prospect communities.

Throughout history, the Holy Spirit has been acknowledged as the divine force that empowers and inspires individuals to engage in acts of service and volunteerism. Within the Christian faith, the Holy Spirit is considered the third person of the Holy Trinity, intimately connected to the life of believers. As Christians, understanding the role of the Holy Spirit in motivating and equipping us for volunteerism opens a new dimension of purpose and impact in our service to others.

The Holy Cross of Davao College Inc. being a Catholic institution, in it’s efforts would like to offer help and assistance to those in need, particularly those who have been affected by fires, floods, and other natural disasters.

All of our initiatives receive strong support from the HCDC Administration. In addition, the school president, Bro. Noelvic H. Deloria, empowered us to improve the program for our partner communities. (Jeralyn Palero I HCDC Social Action Coordinator)
