Bringing Christian Faith to Airwaves: DXGN’s mission to Serve Small GKK Communities

In Matthew 6:2, it said, “when you give alms, do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets to win the praise of others. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.” DXGN 89.9 Spirit FM did not miss and fully understood the assignment.

Earlier last year, four Gagmay’ng Kristohanong Katilingban (GKK) communities celebrating their respective fiestas were blessed to be featured on DXGN’s Facebook page, free of charge. These annual feast celebrations include the GKK Birhen sa Lourdes in Panabo, GKK Sr. San Jose in Bunawan, GKK Sr. San Vicente Ferrer in Malabog, and GKK Our Lady of Fatima in Tagum City. This act of charity was a testament to the station’s commitment in serving the community, and it exemplifies the Catholic Church’s core values of gratitude and service.

DXGN covers live streams in exchange for a certain amount like any other media and entertainment entities. However, DXGN extends gratitude by ensuring that at least one GKK community will receive a free live coverage every month in order to give back to the community. “…Usa lang ka-pagpahibalo nga ania ang DXGN ug Herald dinhi sa inyong GKK tungod kay nakadaog kamo sa contest nga unang muhatag ug mga ngalan sa mga GSL (GKK Servant Leaders). Busa nagsaad ang Herald ug DXGN nga muanhi gayod taga-fiesta ninyo tungod kay nakadaog kamo. Muanhi sila for free alang kaninyong tanan. To live FB [Facebook] to international, naila kamo og usab diri sa atong archdiocese,” Sr. Federica Dalaguit, FSP stated as recalled in her closing remarks in Our Lady of Lourdes GKK on February 10, 2018 at Purok 13, NCCC Relocation, Buhangin.

This announcement is good news to the members of GKK communities, who often hold important events such as their respective annual feast celebrations, but may not have the resources to share them with a wider audience. With DXGN’s offer of free live stream coverage, these communities can now reach out to their loved ones, friends, and even strangers across the globe.

However, this goes beyond just providing a free service. It is also a mission of evangelization, allowing GKKs to spread the word of God to a wider audience. Through live streaming, more people will have access to religious events and teachings, regardless of their physical location. This was particularly significant during the pandemic, where restrictions on mass gatherings have made it challenging for GKKs to maintain their sense of community.

This initiative also emphasizes the idea of stewardship – the responsible management of resources for the benefit of others. DXGN’s decision to provide free live stream coverage to GKKs is a perfect example of how we can use our resources to give back to the community. By providing this service, they are helping GKKs to reach out to their members and share the message of faith, hope, and love. (Eleazar James Manalastas and Jean Dariel Santillan)
