PME Rest House Opens
On February 6, 2023, diocesan clergy, friends and benefactors witnessed the blessing of the newly renovated rest house previously owned by the PME fathers, which is located at Talomo, Davao City. The blessing was presided over by Most Rev. Romulo G. Valles, D.D., archbishop of Davao. In his message, he pointed out that since the beginning, the place is intended for rest and relaxation.
The PME fathers made all of this possible. The 5-hectare beachfront is envisioned to have recreation areas such as basketball and tennis courts and an infinity pool. With the then, probably Canadian benefactors of the PME fathers and the now Davaoeño friends of the archdiocese, Archbishop Valles is hopeful that the plans will definitely be completed. “We cannot go on the work of evangelization without having now and then to rest our very souls and to rest our very bodies.”
Archbishop Valles suggested to keep the name as it is, “PME Rest House,” so that it always refers to those who labored and worked for the church of Davao many years ago: the PME Fathers.
After the rite of blessing, Mgsr. Paul Cuison gave his message and said that there is nothing new in the building because it is similar to the old structure while adding a place for offices. Since the place is already blessed, everyone is invited to avail of the venue which is open for one day recollections. The hall is already big enough to accommodate about a hundred people for sessions. Chairs and tables are readily available. Use of the venue has a fee of Php50.00 per head. Mgsr. Paul presented the proposed plan for the whole area and is ready for comments for probable revisions.
In the near future, this will be the place where the archdiocese can offer hospitality to other priests and visitors who would want to visit and rest a while. (Bro. Ranie Boy Pamplona)
