For the first time in the local Church of Davao, a PSL, Dr. Joel A. Reyes of the GKK (Gagmayng Kristohanong Katilingban) of the Immaculate Conception Chapel, Km. 12, Sasa, under San Miguel Parish of Panacan, Davao City has successfully finished his Doctoral studies.

Prior to the graduation ceremony, held on April 12, 2014 at the Holy Cross Gym, Dr. Reyes received an Apostolic Sending Forth from Archbishop Romulo G. Valles, D.D., on April 11, 2014, held at the Ateneo de Davao University Chapel, together with other IIREF graduates. The title of his dissertation is “Evangelizing Politics: An Integral Moral Mission of the Christian Stewards to Promote Human and Christic Peace.”

Dr. Reyes encourages lay leaders to study Theology at IIREF and the Vicariate School of Theology (VST) because the course really helps a lot not only in terms of education but most especially of formation.

Presently, Dr. Reyes is a part-time teacher of Moral Theology for the Masters of Arts in Theology at IIREF while his full time teaching career is at the San Pedro College. Aside from giving lectures and facilitating recollections to the different religious organizations and ministries in the parish, he has also published, through IIREF, a Cebuano translation of PortaFidei (The Door of Faith) of former Pope Benedict XVI for the Year of Faith.

The PSL Doctor, at the same time Lector and Commentator in the parish, before entering his doctoral study, also graduated the following degrees: Bachelor of Arts major in Political Science (A.B.), Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.), and Master of Arts in Theology major in Pastoral Ministry (M.A.).

Hence, the parish of San Miguel continues to send students to VST from the different ministries so that many lay faithful that could help in the Pastoral Mission of the Church.
