God’s Handiwork
On December 09, 2022 a member of the Congregation of the Alexian Brothers made his perpetual vows in front of his family, friends and a few members of the religious community. As he prostrated in front of the altar, it was evident that his family especially his mother was filled with both pride and most of all great love.
Bro. Ignatius Gonzales, “Degee” as he is fondly called, is originally from Maasin Leyte. It might come as a surprise but prior to his perpetual vows he’s already given with such a big task being the Director of the Archdiocesan Healthcare Ministry. As he juggles his work in the Alexian Brothers Health and Wellness Center and his formation, he also serves as a contributor in this newspaper, the Davao Catholic Herald. On Tuesday mornings he spends his personal ministry doing what he loves, writing.
You could imagine how blessed the congregation is with him. Their joy is concretely seen when all the members of the General Council came to attend his profession which was first in 800 years.
“I thank God for His goodness and faithfulness in my life. He called me to be His instrument of healing to this broken world. He granted me the grace to seek Him in my life. Everything I’ve ever learned about humility, self-sacrifice and genuine love has come at the foot of the cross. My heart is filled with profound joy as I commit my entire self to Him forever,” these heartfelt words resounded as he uttered them during his thanksgiving speech.
Everyone’s heart was touched when it came to his message to her Nanay Magding which said, “You have always been my prayer warrior. You shed tears for my conversion…Your prayers have been answered. I was able to persevere in this life that I have chosen because of your unconditional love and support…I believe that simple faith and religious practice was a fertile seed ground for my early vocation. I love you so much Nay.”
Brother Ignatius does believe that his profession is only the beginning of his journey, his commitment with the Lord being God’s handiwork.
