Music in the Service of the Church

On December 1, 2022, at 7:00 p.m., the Reo Brothers performed their concert successfully at the Holy Cross of Davao College Gym, Sta. Ana Avenue, Davao City. This endeavor was intended as a fundraising activity for the benefit of St. Francis Xavier College Seminary. The concert formally started with a prayer, followed by the singing of the national anthem led by the selected Schola Cantorum members of the said seminary. Archbishop Valles then gave his opening address, inviting the audience to enjoy themselves and listen to music from the 1950s to the 1970s.

Cheers, shrill sounds, yells, and noises of elation reverberated throughout the entire gymnasium as the five-man band’s silhouettes were caught looming on the stage as they were covered with white smoke spewed by the fog machines. The band’s members began to play their instruments skilfully and with great voices, as if they were somehow able to bring back to life some of the singers from those famous and well-loved music bands from the 1950s to the 1970s, such as the Beatles, Bee Gees, The Beach Boys, The Dave Clark Five, and other prominent bands of the era. Throughout the two and a half hour world-class performances, the band was able to not only sustain the energy, the enthusiasm, and the vigor, but they were able to raise the bar so high that even the audiences craved more when the performances ended.

But sadly, activities must come to an end, and so the event formally concluded with the closing remarks of Rev. Fr. Orlando Angelia, the Rector of the said seminary, in which he expressed his gratitude to all those who supported and made this event possible.
