Cursillo Movement Celebrates 58 Years

The Cursillos in Christianity here in the Archdiocese of Davao will be celebrating its 58th Foundation Anniversary and Grand Ultreya this coming September 2022. This year’s 58 Years of Grace theme is, “Cursillista, Piniyalan Sa Kristohanong Pagtoo “.

With the uncertainties of our times, where COVID pandemic is still present, not to mention the threatening MonkeyPox, the political and economic unrests experienced both locally and internationally and the never-ending threats to our socio-cultural living as well as our Church Life – the Cursillistas remain to be the “katiwala” or steward as entrusted to them when they promised, “I am counting on You, Lord.” Since its birth sometime in July 1964, the movement has produced countless men and women leaders not only in our ever growing parishes in the Archdiocese of Davao but in other parts of the Philippines and the world as well.

As it has been for quite two decades now, the whole month of September of each year, particularly all weekends shall have different events initiated by the Cursillo Movement through the Cursillo Secretariat, now headed by our Servant Leader Sis. Bing Baltazar, to reach out to as many brother and sister Cursillistas. Here’s a more detailed list about the events.

Cursillo Recollection – September 3, 2022, 8:00am to 3:00pm at the Rivier Retreat House, Seminary Road, Catalunan Grande. It will be a BYOB affair with P70.00 as individual contribution. CHARITY WORKS – September 10, 2022 headed by Sis. Marilyn Soria at the Riemon Haven’s Homecare Nursing Home in Talomo. For more information call or text (0918 596 0693) to know what to share and bring.

Pilgrimage – September 17, 2022. Those from the Downtown Area will start at San Pablo Parish (Juna Subd.) at 7:00am. Cursillistas from Toril Area will start at Sto. Rosario Parish at 6:00am. While from Calinan Area will start at San Roque Parish Malabog at 5:00am. Coming off from three different parts of the city, they all merge Saturday, at the Immaculate Conception Parish Church in Mintal, in time for the Culminating Eucharistic Celebration at 12:00 noon to be presided by Fr. The last but not the least, our 58th Foundation Anniversary and Grand Ultreya will be on Sunday, September 25, 2022. That very day, we shall renew our commitment to SERVICE not only for our own movement but for the whole Universal Church. Fr. Jemasol “Jojo” Ortiz, our Cursillo Spiritual Director will lead the Thanksgiving Mass at 8:00 in the morning at the San Alfonso de Liguori Parish in Mandug. The program will start right after the holy mass.

It is BYOB! But it can also mean BYOB…Bring Your Own Best version of yourself! To all Cursillistas, we can’t wait to hear each one introduce one’s self again…your Name, Cursillo Batch Number, Decuria and even your…status? But, we shall all shout with one voice, DE COLORES! ULTREYA!
