1st Parochial Fiesta of San Pedro Poveda
It was an unexplainable feeling for all the parishioners of San Pedro Poveda Parish as we celebrated our 1st Parochial Fiesta on July 28, 2022. By the grace of God, the fruit of prayers and perseverance really paid off considering that we were just established as the 40th Parish in the Archdiocese of Davao on December 3, 2021.
The Pontifical Mass was presided by Most. Rev. Romulo G. Valles, D.D., Archbishop of Davao, with the concelebration of 15 diocesan clergy and religious priests at 9:00 o’clock in the morning.
Prior to this historic occasion, intense preparations were made spearheaded by our Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Elneri B. Meñez. Series of meetings and consultations were initiated from the pastoral council, down to the different ministries and apostolates, then to the GKK level. On the liturgical aspect, Pilgrimage Masses were scheduled to all 21 GKKs from June 8 – July 13, 2022 that form part of the fiesta activities. We also have fiesta highlights, the Kasalan ng Parokya of 11 couples on July 9, 2022 and the Sacrament of Confirmation for 378 individuals of mixed ages on July 17, 2022.
Right after the Pontifical Mass, the parishioners went to their respective tents which were by zone for their get-together lunch. It was really a festive ambiance for everyone. The program ensued with the presentation by zone and ministry and with the special participation of the Poveda School faculty. The program became more exciting as the Ways and Means Committee prepared a token for every group participant after their presentation.
This is yet the beginning and parishioners are looking forward for a much bigger festivity on the years to come.
At the moment, our focus will revert to the construction of our permanent parish structures. We are optimistic that through prayers and hard works, and with the vigorous direction of our parish priest and with the collaboration of the Construction and Ways and Means Committees, together with the support of all GSLs, parishioners and stakeholders, we can endure this herculean task. For now, we are into our on-going endeavor of initiating fund-raising activities to produce seed money for the immediate commencement of the construction.
San Pedro Poveda, priest, educator and martyr, pray for us! (Leenard R. Baquial | EMHC Coordinator | Member – Parish Pastoral Council)
