KOTAS Service Renewal

On Mar 25, 2022, Wednesday at Virgen Dolorosa Parish, we successfully celebrated the investiture and renewal of the Knights of the Altar Servers (KOTAS) or commonly known as Altar boys at exactly 5PM headed by their president Leigh Khensu Dagpin with the theme “Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord”.

The crowd turned red and white as the “Sutana or Surplice” of these altar boys filled the space which symbolizes the fire of the Holy Spirit that led us to celebrate this wonderful event. Fr. Ricky Penalosa, DCD was the presider and before this renewal, the altar servers had their Lenten Recolllection at the Our Lady of Victory Training Center for Handicapped last March 18, 2022 given by Sister Teresa Balais, DC. Also, they had their Basic Liturgy Seminar held on March 19, 2022 shared by Sir Lloyd Reyes which happened inside the church.

There are a total of 66 altar servers included in this celebration, 26 of them are new who received the investiture and 40 of them renewed their promises. Fr. Ricky pointed out in his homily that in serving God as an altar boy you must have these three 3 characteristics : being passionate, committed and skillful. Serving is not just a name or rank; to be known or to be famous but rather, it is “serving of love with sacrifice”. Thus, the gladness of every guardian and parent was shown through their eyes in seeing their sons pass through the aisle and sure is worth capturing and rejoicing for. The ambience even got happier when the holy water was poured on their vestments for them to become holy and used during the Holy mass. The applause of every heart before and after the blessing was deeply felt especially when it was time to dress the sutana assisted by their parents and guardians. Everyone was fulfilled and grateful having witnessed God’s works. (Shyra Nica L. Borres)
