SLRP Conducted its First Catechism Workshop After Two Years
In pursuit of its goal of expanding knowledge and giving importance to Catechism, San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish in Talomo held its workshop for catechists for the first time in two years after the COVID-19 outbreak.
The said workshop is supposedly conducted annually, however, due to the pandemic; the church was compelled to give it a halt not until last Friday, March 11, 2022. The event successfully took place inside the church headed by the Pangulo sa Panudlo coordinator, Mrs. Aning Aguilar, a total of 181 catechists from ages 11-72 attended physically whilst following the social distancing guidelines while 41 attendees joined online. Among them, 90% were represented by the youth. The workshop started at 8:00 in the morning focusing on what catechism is and its significant functions, with Fr. Evan Esmade as the speaker; Followed by Fr. Pepe Retorca sharing on the importance of Christian leaders and the roles they need to play in the church. Moreover, he emphasized that as role models who help Christians grow in faith, spirituality, and relationship with God, it is imperative for catechists to seek self-improvement in their secular journey. Personality and development was the last topic discussed by Rev. Jeric Asdang. As the workshop ended at 3:00 in the afternoon, everyone expressed their happiness that despite the current events and busy schedules, they were able to push through with the workshop. This proves that the message of Christ will continue to spread no matter the situation and that it will find its way to reach those who need it. (Kevin Dacuno | SLRP | PYA coordinator)
