Mindanao Week of Peace

The Mindanao Week of Peace this year which starts on November 25 and ends on December 1 bears the theme: Interfaith Unity Inspiring Health Protocols. The joint statement of the convenors, the Bishops-Ulama Conference, recognized that “Directives and guidelines, ambitiously termed protocols, demand willing obedience and support to avoid becoming carriers of the dangerous COVID-19.”

Obedience for the sake of safety of many is required so that peace may reign. Without selflessness to protect the health conditions of one’s brother or sister, no matter what faith or religion one belongs, there could only be more damage and disaster. One should not only think of his whim and wishes if he desires to pursue peace.

And, even if this celebration is only for a week, peace is a daily endeavor. It is to be lived in the daily encounter of reality, in work, business, family and even in one’s care for creation. It must become a way of life for its fruits to last. Peace starts with oneself.

Mary, Queen of peace, pray for us!
