VST Ecclesiology Course ends at the orphanage
Exemplifying the nature and mission of the Church, the students of the VST Ecclesiology Course of the San Isidro Labrador Parish – Skyline, held their culmination class at the St. Padre Pio Orphanage which is being managed by the Apostles of Jesus Crucified Sisters, located in Tugbok, Davao City last February 22, 2014. Headed by their teacher Mrs. Frances Niña Fernandez-Bitang, the students showed compassion to the orphans by first building a rapport through educational games, gift-giving of sacks of rice, and partaking of a simple “salu-salo” which brought smiles and songs from the children.
The act of compassion linked the theories of the Ecclesiology Course and multiple intelligences of humanity, bringing to light the meaning of being in a Catholic Church – “which is a community of men and women, united in Christ and guided by the Holy Spirit, under the leadership of the successor of St. Peter and the Bishops in communion with him” (CFC 1444). The Church is more than just a building.
The joy of giving the students had experienced is a “medal” received at the end of the school days, giving further lessons in that the “Church claims to be a faith-assembly whose root cause is God’s free call to all to share His divine goodness and love in Christ” (CFC1355). The closing statement of the Class President Engr. Cristy Gallano, emphasized the gratitude the class extends to the orphans and AJC Sisters for giving the opportunity to share the blessings of charity, hope and love in the journey of maturing in their Christian faith.
