National Seafarers Sunday
To be a seafarer could offer advantages and disadvantages to the life of the family. As one of the promising jobs, seafarers are a support to their family. They are able to send their children to school, build decent houses for their beloved, and answer material and financial needs that the family faces.
On the other hand, if not used wisely, the support they extend to their family may not be managed well. The savings they send may go nowhere. Their absence in the family for longer times may weaken the relationship among family members. This in turn, may lead to delinquency among children.
Like any other working individual who is away from their home, a seafarers struggle a lot in the midst of temptations in a place far from the loved ones. Many a times, they are deprived of the physical presence in special occasions, miss praying together physically and suffer loneliness fulfilling the load of their work at sea.
As we celebrate National Seafarers Sunday, we offer our moral and spiritual support to the families of seafarers within our reach. They need our prayers and concern that their families may remain united in the midst of the distance that they experience due to the demands of work.
O Mary, star of the sea, pray for us!
