Caring for our home is caring for life
As Pope Francis exhorts us to celebrate and pray for the care for creation from September 1 to October 4, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, let us be challenged by his words:
“Many things have to change course, but it is we human beings above all who need to change. We lack an awareness of our common origin, of our mutual belonging, and of a future to be shared with everyone. This basic awareness would enable the development of new convictions, attitudes and forms of life. A great cultural, spiritual and educational challenge stands before us, and it will demand that we set out on the long path of renewal.” (Laudato Si, 202)
What can you do to minimize the following: our practice of one-use plastics, of air pollution, of lack of garbage management, of making the environment green? What can you do to contribute in caring for our natural resources and minimize its abuse for the sake of convenience and personal interest of the few? What change can we do to happen so that we make the world a better place to live?
We hope that each one of one can contribute our own constant little way of caring for our home even beyond this month long celebration for the care for creation. For as Joey Ayala sings, “Karaniwang tao saan ka tatakbo, kapag nawasak iisang mundo. Karaninwang tao anong magagawa, upang bantayan ang kalikasan?”
