Living our baptismal promises

The entire Filipino people celebrate the 500th anniversary of Christian evangelization. It is a celebration of thanksgiving for the gift of faith received from God through His missionaries.

But this celebration need not remain only in beautiful rituals and joyous activities. This celebration must be concretized in deep reflection and heartfelt actualization of the baptismal promises that we, believers, renew during Easter Sunday.

As we remember today, third Sunday of Easter, the first baptism in the country, it remains to be a challenge for each of us to become a people of communion and reconciliation rather than division and confusion, a people who do not settle for mediocrity in witnessing the faith but becoming brave enough to stand against corruption and exploitation.

Let us remain humble with our strength of faith and be proud to live it out.
