Alay Kapwa 2021
With or without the pandemic, the Church always exhorts the faithful to do “Alay Kapwa” during the season of Lent. This is a program spearheaded by the Social Action ministry which is not primarily a fund-raising but an action of charity to the least, last and lost. In the spirit of Lent’s almsgiving, prayer and fasting, this is the Church’s concrete way of living the call for charity to others.
If “Alay Kapwa” is a way of charity, this does not mean that we only need to be charitable to others during the season of Lent but day in and day out. This year’s “Alay Kapwa” deepens our meaning of helping those in need in this trying and difficult time. History offers us this special moment of savoring our Christian way of life in extending our hands to our needy brethren. May we see the face of Christ in the poor, the sick, the hungry and thirsty.
“I tell you, whenever you did this for one of the least important of these followers of mine, you did it for me!” (Mt. 25:40).
